Focus ST to an S
With respect I cannot see how you an compare a tarted up common Ford box, the like of which litter the roads and every housing estate in the land, to an intelligent thinking persons superior brand of sophisticated sports car.
The latter requires skills to drive effectively, is crafted as if from a billet of steel, and whose looks have the sort of individuality that make it stand out as a defiant statement againts banality.
Why even the roof folds so you can enjoy free fresh air.

I've gone from an Accord Type R (excellent FWD motor) to a Civic Type R (not as good as the Accord and quite frankly a bit dissapointing) to the S2000 and I can honestly say the S2000 is a brilliant experience and would not want to get rid of it for another hot hatch.
It's my daily drive throughout the year, all weathers. But be warned, although it has an excellent sized boot for the type of car it is not hugely practical and that is really the biggest downside if it's your only car to go from practical hot hatch to impractical sports car.
In terms of driving I think you'll probably love going to an S from the Focus although I don't expect the speed to be hugely different, RWD is great, so much so that I don't want to ever go back to FWD if I don't have to. Don't expect it to be quite as refined as the Focus in terms of noise and the like, I'm sure the S will seem quite noisy to you. I also have an early S2000 and it's not the bitch everyone makes out unless you drive like an idiot.
At the end of the day take one for a test drive and see what you think.

Thanks everybody.Time to get test driving
What really impresses me is the number of people on here who have had more than one S. That says a lot about the car.

There are also those of us who are still on their very first S

Take one for a test drive but make sure you cover all types of road if poss. On smooth fast roads the S is superb but throw in some bumps and lots of traffic and with the hood up on a rainy day and it may not be your cup of tea.
Dont get me wrong, i love it and you probably will too, but despite it being fairly practical as a sports car it is still a totally different experience to a hot hatch.
