Default Front oxygen sensor

EML came on recently and Honda confirmed it was the front O2 sensor. They quoted me £470 for part and fitting. Hond-R new me gave me a similar price as they couldn't import the part and would pay the same price as Honda themselves, plus they'd need to take it to Honda to have the engine management register the part.

I've done a few searches on here and everyone pretty much suggests getting a Walker part and have a go at fitting it, once you have the right socket. I'm willing to give this a go but do I still have to take it to Honda to have the part registered with the engine management? Will EML go off and stay off? I'm worried because it's not an OEM part that the car won't recognise it and keep throwing up the light.

According to Hond-R, Honda have recently brought out a new sensor as the old ones were prone to cracking, hence the increase in price as seen in previous threads on here.

Never heard of that. I'm open to be corrected, but I'd have thought you'd just plug it in and reset the ECU wouldn't you? Pull the fuse, have it re-learn, job done. That's what I've done on previous cars, not the s2k, but it's a four wire lambda sensor just the same as ever.

Maybe see what price Hendy could do for an OEM one: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/852...page__st__1925
I wouldn't try a cheap non-OEM unless some one on here has given it a go and recommends a particular one. Maybe a good brand like Bosh or Denso (I'd guess OEM is Denso). I tried a cheap one on a previous car and it ran like crap.

I got a Denso sensor (OEM manufacturer) for a very good price direct from the USA via ockauto. I will try and find the part number as mine has been fitted to my 2006 S2000 with no problems.

Also assuming you removed the sensor and then installed the new sensor without powering up the ECU via the ignition then you would get no engine check light, then its a simple case of disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes or so which will reset all the ECU's long term fuel trims.

Edit. I used this info on rockauto.com

DENSO Part # 2344124

You will probably get that delivered from FEDEX for less than £100 and probably have it by Wednesday/Thursday if you ordered today. The part number lists 2000-2003 but the main reason is later on the AP2 version in the states swapped over to a wideband sensor. The European sensor stayed the same narrowband as the original.

Little update on this. I bought a Walker sensor for £114 and got the local tyre and exhaust place to fit it whilst I was having two new rears fitted for £30. Total saving = £326! Had to disconnect the battery to get rid of the EML but all is good so far. Thanks for the advice everyone.

If you had driven around for a while it would have reset itself, so making those dudes charging to reset it a bit of a rip off.
