Default Funny engine noise when warm?

Dougie, on 26 April 2014 - 01:56 PM, said:
Hi

I am new on here and would like your opinion on the noise my engine is making.
I have my suspicions but would like your experienced opinions on were i should be going first with it.
I am handy with a spanner and not afraid of taking the engine apart etc to fix it.
its a 1999 ap1 i have just done a complete fluid change on the engine, gearbox and diff.
there should be a link attached if i have done it right.
I posted this on the main forum but no one has come back to me about what it could be? Hoping someone on here will be able to help.
thanks

Thanks I will do that . Had to order a longer extension for my compression tester as the one I have is not long enough to reach down the tubes to the plugs.
Will do that and report back.

Just thought .
When I replaced the plugs they were all in perfect condition no soot build up etc....?
So should I be looking at rod bearings ?
I will still do a comp and leak down test as a matter of cause.
And adjust the valve clearances.

If it is rod bearings think the crank could be screwed as it's been driven a bit.
Has anyone got a crank laying around if I need to change it? :-(

IF it's the crank, start looking for a new engine - the F20C doesn't have a good history when it comes to rebuilds - I don't know why.

Not really what I wanted to here! :-(
Can't afford a new engine if it is the crank.
Will get it re ground and fit oversize bearings. Or if I am lucky just new bearings.
Don't understand why an engine would have problems after a rebuild?

Do you think it sounds like rod bearings?
