my advice get the car properly polished first then have the painter match it, not just buy the honda paint
don't get the car polished yourself, let the bodyshop do it for you. if your valet uses a polish with any silicone in it then the paintwork will be covered in it which will make it a nightmare for the painter. silicone is the bane of any painters life.
secondly, the bodyshop will not use honda paint. they will use any one of many proprietry paint suppliers who provide them with a paint kitchen which should accurately match the paint colour using the paint code they take of the chassis. much the same way as the dulux machines you see in diy stores. very few painters try and match the paint by eye.
Cheers for all the replies, its made my job a lot easier!
Have plumped for a place called Martlesham Body Repair Centre nr. Ipswich after a few quotes of about the same and they all reckoned on a door respray. Its gonna set me back

hi all, just to have my ten pence worth, try at all costs to avoid having a panel blown in if it is metallic, it always shows in sunlight. If the car is more than 3 or so years old and spends alot of time in sunlight then a whole panel painted will stand out and you will have to have the side of the car painted to match, urs is a 2001 in black so thats all good for you, as black is the easiest to match as it fades the least other than white. im having the whole front end of my s2000 painted now, its costing me 800 and im having the doors and rear quarters deep polished first so the painter can match the paint when it is at its best,

Also black fades to brown eventually, so it does require a skilled painter to blend it correctly.
It's still far easier than any other colour, especially metallic, I agree.
