Default Gas struts for bonnet

I'd like to fit these this summer but would like some advice from those who have 'tried & tested' before.

Are there any brands that are considered 'the best'?

Tein do some nice ones, Science of Speed have some. or ebay (Sokietech) if you don't mind some extra hassles.

I have some cheapy ebay ones. Some issues getting the fitting just right so they did not vibrate. A few others have reported issues with the metal parts getting some surface rust but I gave mine a thin coat of clear waxoyl and it's kept garaged.

Got the Science of Speed ones through yesterday, very easy to install and seems quite solid. Still being careful openning and closing at the moment just in case my previous observation isn't true (more lack of faith in my DIY ability than the build quality).

Had to import it though, $238.50 I think with delivery. Unfortunately got stung an extra

I bought the Sokietech ones off eBay. Apart from me fitting the brackets the wrong way round, they fitted fine.

I used gearbox oil to lubricate the pistons and the balljoints. I get no rust on them, but the car is kept garaged

I've had these on for 18 months. They operate very well. Just a bit of rust on the ends. I could replace them every year for the price of those SoS ones!

Daft question, but do they increase or decrease the lift height of the bonnet?

yes they all increase but most are no where near the height and angle offered by the SoS ones.

The Tein ones don't increase the lift I believe, and I found the NRG ones lifted the bonnet higher than my current Sokietech ones do
