Default Gearbox - update

S is going in next week to have the gearbox stripped down and fixed under warranty (I'd informed them on the 31st when it was in warranty so it's all OK ).

Problem seems to be the sycncromesh on 5th gear but they need to strip it down to find out exactly what the problem is as it could be something else. Regardless they'll fix it whatever the problem is.

Means a I get a courtesy car for the week (it may till late in the week to fix) which actually suits me fine as I'm moving this weekend and I'll be in and out of Ikea/Argos etc. getting flatpacks etc. so a civic or Jazz will be perfect as the S is limited in the flatpack carrying department!

Anyway, thumbs up to my local dealer (as long as it gets fixed and doesn't take more than the week of course!

The same problem I had with mine. I wonder why they're stripping yours down to investigate further when they said it wasn't cost-effective to do that with mine and so decided just to whack a new 'box in?

Anyway, good to know they didn't play silly beggars over whether it was covered or not

That is puzzling! I didn't think main dealer garages got involved with mechanical repairs of that complexity. Perhaps it's just the way they are choosing to spin it.

I too have had problems just recently with my gear box, I am totally unable to select 5th gear, and also when in vtec in 3rd and then select 6th gear, the cogs grate....

So I took it too my local dealers today, and the mechanic was very good he jumped in the seat, moved the gear lever. He then got on the phone and in front of me called Honda, they authorised a new gearbox and clutch
I had only been in the dealership less than 5 mins and a new gearbox and clutch was on it's way to me, and I can have the new 2.4 Accord whilst as a coutesy car for a couple of days

By the way mine is a 2002 model with about 13500 miles, but I do drive it hard

I've noticed mine catches going from 6th to 5th, but i thought it was me. Must keep an eye on it.

A friend used to have a Honda garage baxk in the 80's, when Civics couldn't be got for love nor money (import restrictions). In those days, Honda didn't sell a short engine - you had to rebuild the old one with all the bits. How times change!

I think my dealer deals with more S2000's than the typical Honda dealer (or has better mechanics) so they'll investigate, even tho it costs them more so that they can find out why it is happening for future reference. Probably a little 'project' for the mechanic too, to do something different

Goes in on monday and I hope to get it back before the easter break so I'll keep you all posted.

(the 2nd/3rd to 6th 'grate' seems the make the problem worse, it's possibly the cause. I try to avoid the manouvre at all times, even more so once the 'box is fixed!).
