...detector should I buy?

After stupidly going through a Truvelo last weekend at 87 because I was not concentrating I have decided to buy one. Not sure which, but my choices are:

1. Road Angel - Seems to get good reviews, but goes off for cameras on the wrong side of the road, and is very big.
2. Snooper S6R - Small and the right size, but is it good and do I need the radar bit (does it work?)
3. Morpheous Roadpilot - They have a nice one with the LCD screen, but is it too big and whats it like?
4. Cyclops - Good budget detector, but does it work?
5. Origin B2 - its new so I have not heard anything

I really just want some honest comments and advice before I commit at the end of the month. Are these devices easy or difficult to hard wire in e.g. the S6R need the radar bit behind the grill. Can I do this, or do I need a professional, and is it expensive to get them to install?

Thanks in advance

Truvelos don't work off radar like a GATSO. they are triggered by the car passing over a loop set in the road surface. Thus a Radar detector is no use against one. You need a GPS based unit like the Morpheus which has the locations downloaded.

Suggest you go out and buy this week's Motorcycle News (

Point 1.

Not correct. Mine never goes off like that. Only on the cameras that can nab you, ie in the `right` direction. OR if the camera rotates. They cover both directions then.

ALL are a POP to hardwire. I personally think the RA is very good. But there are a few on here unhappy with the database on a new camera or two..

Big? It's among the smallest on the market! It's certainly no bigger than a radar detector and sits very comfortably on the little ledge to the right of the instrument binnacle

I also don't know where you got the idea that it detects cameras on the wrong side of the road. Never once have I experienced that in over a year of using the RA. It's directional, so it only warns you of cameras that you're approaching which can snap you.

I've been very happy with mine. My only concern has been the updating of the database - it seems a bit slow to remove cameras which have moved (the SPECS camera which was between J6 and J7 of the M6 last year during the roadworks is still shown despite having been taken down months ago). They also haven't added yet (according to what they told Simmo) the new cameras which work on induction from buried cables in the road.

Get Blackzit to do a `refresh` on your account. It`ll sort that out Mark.

thanks for the info so far. It was a colleague who said the directional thing about the RA. He is not the brightest however

I would really like to hear from anyone with a road pilot or S6R?

Moff,

I have been using the roadpilot for a month now and it is great. It warns you about cameras in the direction you are traveling (it will show the camera in the opposite direction but no warning).

Lots of features, check their website for more info.

This is my install, hardwired into the accessory connector under the steering wheel.

I also have the Snooper 715iS for radar / laser, also hardwired in.

Lee.

Just a quick diversion.

Is there a separate accessory connector under the wheel as well as the one between the seats?

Not picked up my S yet (3 weeks and counting...) but I never spotted this in the dealer!
