Actually if you could get it in leather padding, it wouldn't look out of place in the living room and would double as a recliner!
I wouldn't really go to these lengths but position is really everything for realism and control!. When I play Pro Rally 2000 on the P.C. My set up is as follows.
My desk is the standard height but the monitor sits on a metal keyboard storage thingy. That plus the base of the monitor raises the bottom of the screen to about a foot above desktop level.
The steering wheel is fastened on the desk in front of the monitor
with the pedal board on the floor.
My chair is one of those with a centre pedestal with height adjustment. It all feels very strange because you are too high over the wheel and still looking slightly down at the monitor (road)
NOW... Drop the seat as low as it will go and push it back until you have more of a natural straight leg and arm position. You will do better straight away as it is instantly more natural as you are looking just over the top of thewheel and straight ahead at the road surface. Try it it really rocks!!!

How about we try the Tokyo timed run (as I cannot afford an S2000 yet). This is my first ever time playing GT so go easy on me. I managed 2:11.583 after a few laps. Didn't get a perfect lap done so plenty of room for improvement.

I have to be honest, as well as the force feedback wheel for my PC, I do have a gaming seat with integral mounts for wheel and pedals - it was only 40 quid at Makro, so I couldn't resist. Looks a bit more professional than that wooden version. However, the seat could be a bit more comfy - 15 minutes and you end up with a numb arse. The only problem is I get nagged when I leave it in front of the TV in the lounge. Some women ...
Mind you, we're about to move house, and I should end up with a dedicated toy room / study. Problem is, I'll have to stick with playing Colin McRae 2 as I can't afford a PS2 + wheel and the mortgage at the same time.
