Handbrake light doubles as a brake fluid level warning light on alot of cars. Once the pads are low the pistons are extended to keep them mated up with the discs. This results in a drop in the fluid level in the resevoir, leading to activation of the warning light.
That's the theory, but you need to get the fluid level right with brand new pads and disks. If you ever top up the fluid with half worn pads, the system doesn't work.

Topping up the fluid to make the light go away isn't a good solution.

[QUOTE=JG,Dec 11 2007, 06:00 PM] All this talk of low fluid and worn pads is starting to get me worried for Donington on Saturday

Colder fluid is more dense?
So as the car warms, the fluid expands .. and you are no longer on the limit?

Classic incident management vs problem management

(oh god, I'm quoting ITIL after all these years out of it...)

Mine did this, this morning as I skidded like fook on ice in my road. Stopped by going into the kerb! It's slippy out there, on ungritted roads, lucky I was only doing 15mph!
