Default Hardtop

Right, im getting sort of confused with the whole hard top thing. So far i gather...

You need a fitting kit
It takes a couple hours to fit
It takes two people to lift it on/off

My question is... Lets say i obtain and fit a hardtop. Does this "fitting" kit stay on all the time? I.e. I want mine for winter, and come summer, probably wont use it too much as i'll have the roof down. During the summer, do i leave the "fitting kit" fitted, and does this allow for normal operation of the softtop? Also, does it leave any unslightly bits on show?

Yes the kit stays on. yes soft top works as normal, No especialy if you have a Tornau cover on, and finaly not a two man job if you have a garage and room to put a bike hoist in it (othwise two man prefered, so you don't scratch baby).

Have a search on that well known auction site for "honda s2000 hardtop" there are a couple there but would need a respray, no fixing kits though.

Sounds like the fitting kits from Honda are quite expensive though? I'd rather just get the roof and the kit together if possible. Saves hassle.

Keep an eye out in the forum FS section and Fleabay. Buying now is cheaper than waiting for winter.

FWIW, the fitting kit should come with:

Windscreen striker plates (where the catches hook on to...soft top ones are not suitable as they're made from softer metal, but the soft top works with the HT ones as well)
Side latches (where the HT spikes fix into)
Modified side brushes (although you can cut your existing ones)
Wiring kit...you may need an additional loom depending on the age of your S/if it was originally a GT, available from hardtopguy.com (Have a search on the forum for more info/photos)
Heated Rear Window (HRW) Switch
HRW Relay (often not included, fits into the fusebox by your right shin)
Modified passenger side interior panel, depending on the age of your S/if it was originally a GT. You can cut your own hole in the panel for the HRW connection however.

It takes no more than an hour to fit if you know what you're doing, you can download instructions.

Thanks a lot for that. Didnt know there was so much involved?

Mines not originally a GT. What a ballache just to fit a bloody hardtop! You'd think you could just clip it on and be away.

Im not sure what to do first. My plastic rear screen has a rip right down it, which is taped up and doesnt leak but looks crap. Its either get a new softtop with glass window this year, and get a hardtop next year, or vice versa.

IIWU, replace the soft top first.

If you are a member of S2KUK (not this site, S2Ki) you can get a brand new Mohair hood with heated glass screen for just £707 with Monsoon:

Well worth a trip down there; owners from Ireland have even made the trek!

I actually leave the hard top on mine whenever it's in the garage, makes it more secure. I still rock it in summer depending on where i'm going to look different.

Very few s2k's rock a hard top with any frequency.
