Yeah I have the same one as that hanging up in my back bedroom, not looking forward to bringing it back down the stairs.

Need to upgrade to a house with a garage!

I built a hoist/pulley system so I could pull the car into my garage and remove the lid on my own.

I absolutely SHAT myself when using it. It was not a good idea. I attached the ropes and winched the thing. It would swing about like an unwieldy beast. As soon as the top became detached it would rock backwards and forwards all over the car on Wickes nylon ropes. The spikes at the rear of the hard top used to make me sweat.

Hanging tops and me never used to get on

Yup, I have the EXACT same one in the garage.
I screwed the hangers into the roof joists, one will support a fat bloke easily.
The cover is a tight fit but once you suss it out (sure they sent me an MX5 one at first) its good.

for price on ebay.

I have same bag (from ebay) and very pleased with it too. But not got mine hanging though. Mine protects the roof whilst on the stand, like you. The quality of the bag loops and the hooks look good enough to let it hang there for ever so I don't think there is an issue there. Just make sure that the bolts don't pull out of whatever you screw them into.
