Default Hardtop Question

My S currently has its hardtop on. I'm lucky in that it doesn't seem to suffer from rattles, creaks, or associated noises that others have been plagued with.

The main noises I get are from the softtop latches rattling around in the back. What have others done to stop this happening?

I should've really asked this question when I put the thing on back in November, not right before I'm about to take it off.

Have a look at the FAQ at the top of the forum, I think this is the most common problem!!

Thanks, but I've already checked the FAQ, and this issue isn't listed.

To clarify: I don't have rattling hardtop catches, i.e. the ones at the top of the A-pillars that are closed when the hardtop is in place. The rattling is coming from the catches on the stowed softtop behind.

When the hardtop is off and the softtop down, you can't hear the softtop catches rattle due to wind noise. However, when the hardtop is on, they rattle noticeably. I was wondering what people have done to stop that.

Ah I took mine back to the dealer and they fixed it but it was definitely the softop catches rattling on mine. I figured the fix would be the same, sorry

Guy before me just taped them down with strong black tape which is'nt offensive to the eye. seems to work on mine although my right rear hardtop area does rattle over bumpy roads!

I use black elastic hair bands to hold the latches back, they are about 4mm thick 50mm diameter

I found that the soft top latches could be closed when the roof was down with either the hook "semi-upright" and loose and they would rattle. However by pushing the hook bit down so it stays flat like the rest of the latch i.e. replicating as when it is engaged for latching the roof in the up position, the noise disappeared.

That reminds me, I must get round to sorting mine out at some point. Might try the black hair band trick, as I don't want to stick them down with black tape.
