I took mine to the dealer and they replaced the striker plates and the soft-top catches, and the rattle has gone. Trouble is, they didn't replace the HT catches, and apparently the design has changed again (since MY05) so the striker plates don't hold the HT on properly and the whole damn thing creaks and lets in massive wind noise from the front seal above 80mph...

So back in she goes on Monday. Maybe they'll identify the transmission rattle that occurs under hard acceleration above 8000rpm, or under lift-off deceleration in some gears between about 5500-4000rpm ... I took the tech out for a test drive, and he was trying to set me up with the "well, that'll be a really difficult problem to pin down in the workshop..." route. Just gimme a new clutch and see if that helps, is my thinking ;-)

Hello again everyone, btw. I've been quiet of late - got lots on at home (flooded last week) and at work (new job), oh and a thieving b'strd who sold my previous car and pocketed the cash before going bust, to pursue...

Just wondered, are you folding the ragtop with the catches still open?
I unclip mine and then immediately relatch them before folding the roof.
Never hear a peep out of them, but then they are relaytively new...

That was what I was trying to say, but you have said it much more clearly

Have exactly this, but past experience means I have zero expectation the dealer would be able to locate it. Please let us know if they discover why and where it is coming from.

Well, my car's going in on Monday again, but this time they're going to drop out the gearbox, take out the clutch, photograph the clutch plate and send it to HUK to see if they think it's faulty. If it is (and not just worn), they'll replace it under warranty.

If it's not, looks like I'm buying a new clutch whether I like it or not

I think I might take the car out for a spin with a video camera to see if I can record the behaviour - it's definitely not right. Last night driving home, I could replicate it in most if not all gears - lift off just above 4krpm and I get the buzzing coming up through the gearbox. Put power on just under 4krpm and I could also detect a fainter version of the same noise. And full power at >8krpm and it sounds like the gearbox is going to disintegrate!

I'll report back mid/end of next week to say what the outcome is...
