Does it have to be 5dr?

Otherwise I would reccomend a BMW Mini. Parents have one that I have driven a lot. Really nice car to drive and great residuals.

Yeah but you could pick a 2004 Focus up for 6k or less for cash.
can't argue, but it will be approaching the end of its warranty and I don't want a high miler

you see her existing car is six years old and has only done 35,000 miles

no point in trading it for something with more miles/wear and tear on it

I'm not dismissing the purchase idea

just thinking about the leasing - not least because I could lease it as 'my' company car

Si - five door seems to be a definite - think it's to do with loading and past choices rather than carrying people

easy is a key criterion Nick

bet you can't tell me a modern that ISN'T easy to drive anyway

Most of the ones you've ruled out, actually!

I feel many euroboxes have oddly-weighted or rubbery controls, over-servo'd brakes etc. Especially French/Italian, etc.

That's why I despise most of them, these days.

Even the Brera I drove felt as rubbery and disconnected as a Vectra. I couldn't drive it smoothly.

At least the Civic still has some precision.

Good, solid cars. My brother has put ~80k on a diesel one over 3 years or so and it hasn't put a foot wrong. Nice to drive too.

They are a bigger cars though and the 2.2Tdi is the most desirable.

But you are right on the new Astra. I would def go and look them up. I had one on hire for 3 months from work, excellent car. I swore I would never buy a Vauxhall but the new Astra changed me.
Isn't the new astra just a new body on the old chassis. I vaguely remember one of the car shows testing it and finding the chassis a bit lacking. My choice if your GF is not that badge consious is the focus. Very capable car and does everything well and nothing badly. And handles pretty good too.

I'm thinking of getting the missus a ST170 - you can pick up 54 platers with 10k on the clock for around

Ling Valentine's website is great!

But I like Sichuan cuisine.

Acutally, a 730d for a monkey a month looks compelling, compared to an old clitoris for

I'd ignore the Signum if I was you. We had one here on long term press loan and it was awful to drive; rubbish gearchange, the clutch was rubbery and the whole driving experience was disappointing. And that was the 3-litre V6 TD with 177bhp. Besides, it's based on a Vectra and not the Astra, so it is not a hatchback car, it's actually very big.
