Default Head Removal Help

I've got a problem with the old 'S'. Going to work this morning I suddenly got a nasty knocking noise from the engine. To cut a long story short my Bro-in-Law has diagnosed a piston related problem. So the head needs to come off to start with. Can anyone list any parts I will need as a minimum when it comes to reinstalling the head? Obviously I will need gaskets & head bolts and I was going to do the TCT whilst I was there.

Can the sump be removed with the engine still in situ.?

thanks in advance.

Ah no that's not good. Does your reg end in JEL by any chance? If so saw you on the A370 coming into wsm last night.

I'm local to you so if you need any help let me know, I'm no mechanic but happy to help out if I can.

Thanks guys, I will need one of those cam locking plates as well.

Hi Bandit, yes, I saw you last night. I believe we have conversed before. You have just had your 'S' sorted down at Paint Pallets.

Yes a slight altercation with some wildlife required a respray of the bumper/ splitter. Johnny has done quite a bit of work for me, I saw your dolomite in there too, looks nice.

Hope the engine issue isn't too serious.

I've started taking bits off. One thing, can you take the head off without removing the inlet manifold?

I saw a pic once of an 'S' with the bonnet perpendicular whilst the guy was working on the engine. Is there a special catch for keeping it there or must he have had it held some other way?

When I helped Lloyd take his head off, ISTR that the inlet manifold had to come off first...not the easiest job, but doable.
