The Heff's Engine
Hope the new engine is still behaving itself!
New engine is fine mate, touch wood.
Wasn't planning to but ace cafe would be easy for me to get to. I'll have to check work and I know it's full but there is plenty of parking there so I should be able to pop by and say hello. I'll keep you posted.

Bit of a teaser of whats happened to the engine recently.
Most pictures are on my Camera, but here are some I took on my phone.

Lots of shrapnel inside sump and oil pick-up, but guess the big bits is what Heff found on the floor when the car died!
There are some nice chunks taken out of the crank and inside the block.
Those pictures to come soon.
Next challenge is to get the crank pulley wheel off. Anyone know if its standard thread or reverse?
Iv had a mighty long lever bar on it and lots of heat, but still wont budge.
More detailed pictures to come soon!

No - that top-end scoring is quite usual, in that for some reason the the rings seem to pick up on the bores & start wrecking them.
It's believed the friction then over-stresses the conrod and it lets go. That then has hammered the underside of the piston, before exiting stage right.
It doesn't look like the valves dropped or anything, from what I can see.
Likelihood is it's some sort of lubrication problem, but how or why remains a mystery.
Oil jets were enlarged (recall) early on to prevent it happening. But clearly it's not always effective.

I can confirm the valves on cylinder 4 are not seated 100%, but not miles out. Recon they had a close run in with Mr Piston!
If anyone is interested in a specific area and would like more detailed pictures, let me know and ill take some.
Oh, and there is also a very nice crack in the side of the case.
