Be interesting to see if there is much play in the little end bearing of the detached piston.

I had an oil pump problem on my 06 engine at 17k miles. This resulted in scored bores and worn little ends. The resulting rattle sounded just like a TCT problem.

Honda replaced the whole engine under warranty at the time.

Mileage on the engine was 78k

From showing tom (TGM) the rest of the con rod he straight away said he was almost certain that the con rod wasn't secured to the crank properly when the old knocking bearings were replaced by honda. This working loose and ultimately shooting out the bottom of the sump.

Out of curiosity did anyone ever ask Honda to take a look at the ECU?

I ask this as there was a thread on here a while ago (can't remember the name of the thread but I know that fluffyninja was trying to help out) where someone had a dispute with Honda over engine failure not long after they had bought the car and Honda were able to tell from the ECU that the engine had been over revved at one point during it's life.

I didn't mate no. Didn't quite see the benefit of that. It would make no difference either way as my dispute with the seller wassn't that the car is faulty as such. It is the fact that details about the car, such as major engine work carried out on the car was not disclosed, especially as the car had only 300 miles on since the work was carried out so was still in the run in period (fairly important information I think) and the fact that having done my research before buying one I'd never have considered it had I known about the work. I think he new full well and had people walk away when he had told them, hence not disclosing it to me.

The crank has had some serious heat to turn it blue, maybe from this time or leftover from the previous problem, loads of avenues to explore and lots of dead ends with it going twice

As Dave , Ray or what ever his Monica is , said that crank journal is very blue and clearly seriously overheated.

Just a thought, I wonder if the new shells that I presume Honda fitted were the correct size or correctly fitted resulting in a very tight bearing on that crank journal , pick up, over heating subsequent failure of the con rod etc etc

I think you're possibly right.

The bore isn't as scored as much as I'd first thought, so pick-up looks less likely. More a mis-aligned slug, when it was batted upwards & (gently) bashed the exhaust valves, probably as the big-end shells disintegrated.

But it's very hard to ascertain what's new and old damage. Apart from the journal face, of course!
