Default Hello

Hi People

I'm new to the S2000 World, after a few pointers.

Want to buy one in September, is there anything I should look out for on a second hand model? What year did the face lifts take place and what are the differances between say a W reg and an 51 plate for example?

thanx
Andy

I think the biggest difference between the two was the introduction of the glass rear window on the 02 model.

Older cars have a plastic rear window and this needs a *lot* of looking after to keep in good condition.

I'd have to disagree Steven. I have a plastic rear window and apart from a Muz window mat thingy I do very little to maintain it. When it very occasionally gets washed I use sponge and water on the outside and every now and then Autoglym Motorcycle visor cleaner on the inside..

I know others have screens in bad condition, but I don't have a prob with mine at all

Of course thats more effort than the glass one, but I think it's worth it given the fact it's about twice the size of the glass one..

I found that even though the plastic window was bigger I could never get a clear view out of it.

Even after I had it replaced under warranty for a new one it still wasn't completely flat so it was like looking through a distorted lense.

At least with the glass window I get a clear view.

One of us will help you. Ie if its Cheshire/NW, I`ll help you look for a good example.

Some of us never drive with the roof up, you wuss.

Andy - welcome.

You really would do best to spend a day or so ploughing through the FAQ and various old threads, then posting questions about specifics.

I know you've posted specific questions already, but the background reading will not only answer many of these questions, but will probably raise questions you hadn't even thought of.

FWIW the first model was launched in 99 and the first update 2002. The only other update/revision was 2004.

Glass rear screen in 2002, some different colours, minor int and ext trim mods, changes to suspension set up. Engines pretty much identical although some say there have been subtle changes in ECU mapping and the like. Some slight mods to improve gearshift - which most recognise as outstanding in any year car.

Do a search on recalls and make sure any car you look at has had them done.

IMO there is no point in buying a car out of Honda warranty. The risks are too great and there are plenty of cherished examples about. Especially here.

Andy and welcome to the boards

I'll go along with what Cheshire Carper said and if you are in the south east / Thames Valley area give me a shout and I'll help you look at any examples you've seen.

Generally if you go for one that is being sold on the forum, we've all talked about our cars enough and the experiences we have had with them so generally you won't go far wrong if you are looking for a private sale / purchase scenario to go for one of those, such as Mike's above if you check out the For Sale board
