Default Hello

Hi,

I've been browsing this forum for the past week or so and have found some great information here so thank you very much. I'm after an S2K as a weekend car and am looking to spend about 12k. There are many examples to choose from out there so I'm sure I will be asking some questions in the future.

As of now I'm an S2K virgin so I'm going to try and organise a test drive this weekend with my local dealer. First question - for 12k then newest model I'll be buying will be MY02. Is the difference that large between MY02 and current? Would driving an MY07 give me a good idea of what ownership of an older model will be like?

My daily driver is a 56 plate A3 2.0 TFSI S tronic which I am very happy with but I am looking for something I can have some real fun with at the weekends, hence the S2K.

Yo

Test drive is definately the way to go first but make sure when you're test driving that you get a good feel of the car.

As for which year you want to get the S2000 has not changed much through the years apart from cosmetic changes (lights and interior trim) and tweaks in the suspension.

The newest model uses drive by wire and has the new 2.2l engine <- i think

Suspension tweaks made a big difference and softened the feel of the car.
Wheels got bigger with different rubber in '04 and springing is different, read the FAQ, thats why its there and will tell you everything there is to know.

2.2L is American model, UK are 2 litre 237BHp or thereabouts.

Two lots of misinformation in one post

The 99-03 car feel ALOT different to drive than the +04 cars. Having owned four S's IMHO the later cars are an easier drive.
Europe does not get the 2.2 engine, Japan has only just got it.

My advice would be to test drive a car of the age you are considering. At least you will then have a bench mark to compare by.

Thanks for the replies people. I think I need to find a 99-03 model to try out. How have you found Honda garages to be when letting people out for test drives? Do you think they will let me have a car for a couple of hours - salesman?

m1bjr - I've had a good read of the FAQ and found it very usefull. It made me aware of the model changes for different years however I think you need to experience what these changes feel like and how significant they are hence why I asked my original question.

I thought the Type V's were 2.2's in Japan, and they've had those for a few years now, if not since launch

There's no harm in test driving a newer car, but do bear in mind the earlier cars will feel a bit different.

Get a long to your nearest regional meet. You'll learn more about the car by chatting to people than you ever will reading a web forum.

Mostly no, they normally come with you or have a designated test driver that comes out, I believe you need to arrange insurance for a dedicated test drive, not sure how that works as I've never been given one but if they knnow you it'll be easier.
