Default Helmet Recommendations

Anyone have any recommendations for a good helmet for the track use?

I rented a helmet for my first track day, but I want buy one since I'm planning to do quite a few track days.

I'm a former biker - I noticed a lot of difference buying an expensive lightweight helmet for the bike (road, sprints and track.) The helmet I rented seemed okay, but was very heavy compared with my old Arai bike helmet.

Since my brain is obviously working well since I''ve paid for my S2k , I figure I should protect it well

Any thoughts/comments?

-Brian.

When I used to race I had a Simpson but the Bell and Arai are more popular today.

Whats most important is that it fits and you feel comfortable. I'd always recommend a full face helmet, you never can tell when the screen may get damaged.

If it's for track use make sure it's Snell approved. try GrandPrix Racewear www.grandprixracewear.com

Thanks. I'd not heard of Simpson before but their helmets did look good. Though with some of them there's the side effect of looking like Darth Vader

I think I'll go round as many shops as possible trying helmets on. Though one big problem on the bike was always ventilation - and it's hard to get an idea till you're wearing the helmet and it's hot. The Simpson designs looked a bit more designed to be a helmet, rather than designed to look good. A lot of the reason for the query is that I've little experience wearing a helmet in a car, non in an open topped car so I can't really judge cooling, or buffeting. Some how I don't think the helmet shop's would let me try a helmet at 100mph to get a feel for it!

I've got a Sparco club open face helmet. Approved for clubman use. BS6658-85A. Nothing special in the protection department but comfy and not too heavy.
