Default Help?!?

Hi,

Bought a s2000 6 weeks ago, first five weeks were awesome.

However the sixth started with a clicking sound from the engine, took to local honda dealer who charged £1600 for timing belt replacement and service. Ouch!

On replacing timing belt announced block/bottom end on the way out, quote was a measly 7k to supply and fix!

Any advice on what to do next? Car now sounds awful above 3000rpm so selling not even an option.

Seen a few engines for 2.5-3k, would it be better to get a new one or try to replace block/bottom end on existing engine? Rest of the car other in v good condition.

Any thoughts or solid recommendations where this could be done would be much appreciated. I'm based in the midlands.

Thanks

Did you buy the car from a dealer ? If so, surely you can take this up with them ?

I wouldnt bother repairing the current engine, you will pick up a low mileage engine for cheap.

Speak to Andy from Integrastella, he often has S2000 engines. You can email him on anj.prince67@tesco.net

Ouch ... no comeback on the seller?

DMS in London or Garage-R in Barnsley are two that are highly reccomended - i'd avoid Honda but since you are already missing half an arm, i guess you realise that

edit: The chap mentioned in the post above swears more than a trooper but he's excellent to deal with.

I hope they didn't put a timing 'Belt' on

DMS had an engine for sale a while ago,

I can also recommend Garage R

Bought it privately. So guess thats the risk you take; not one i'll be doing again.

Is the consensus a new engine the best way forward?

John/UncleFester Appreciate the replies;

Yesterday felt like i been hit rather hard in the gentlemens area and then had my wallet pillaged.

I'd say so ... and since you have a nice shiny new timing chain and gear ... maybe get that swapped over to the new engine, might as well get some use out of it.

There will be parts you can sell to recoup some of the cost ...... but you may need to reuse some of the ancillary components ( starter motor etc) but it will depend what the new engine comes with.

No such thing...it's either Imola Orange, Monte Carlo Blue, or Lady Boy Blue.

Don't go them again...£1600 is way too much...take it somewhere else. Did they replace the timing chain tensioner (TCT) as well?
