Default Help - gearchange problems

Ok so drive this morning to work and slow down for the end of the slip and first and second gears are really sticky. When i push the gear stick to the left for first or second it sticks and stays there. Doesn't naturally come back to the neutral position

The rest of the gears are ok. I never skip shift an allow the car to warm up. It's going in for a service soon. Any ideas what this could be?

Thanks.

Sounds like a faulty/sticky detent in the gearbox at a best guess. Does the lever self centre from the other direction? i.e 5th & 6th gear side

Yeah the other side is totally fine. As normal. Honda quoted 399 for a full service. The biggest one they do on the car I've been told.

Reverse seems to be an issue too.

Hmmm. Will try another honda garage. The gear issue is worrying me though.

Could it possibly be just the gearbox fluid?

It could just be the shifter mechanism. I regreased mine recently because it was becoming impossible to select reverse when hot. I found the shifter had hardly any grease on it and signs it had been regreased before, i.e. broken tabs on the plastic ring which holds the rubber boot on, and the second boot over the bolts which hold the mechanism in wasn't on properly.

There's a how-to somewhere on here or you could just get Honda to look at it while they have it.

Just be aware the shifter only works in ONE position but fits in two ;-)

You can also replace the nylon bush and ball as well as the spring - freshens things up nicely.

Thanks tim.

I'm getting a little worried. Stirling honda are useless. 145 for just an oil and filter. Glasgow honda are quite pricey but seem to know what their doing.
