Default Help needed

Hi guys
New to the forums but have been reading as a guest for sometime now...

Have had my S now for approx 2 months and have to say - wow! what a fantastic car!! Had an MGF before this but this is a different kettle of fish! it does everything the MG did and also does everything the MG didn't! Its the joy I've been looking for in a car for years...
However, unfortunately, I feel victim to its savagery the other day...
Pulling out of work, pulled out onto a relatively fast road and started to take it easy (cold tyres, slippery fast road)... 20mph i see this guy come speeding up very quickly behind me so put my foot on the pedal so he dont go through me.. and bam,,, back end out and before i know it im in a small ditch which just so happens to be a pond
Luckily, i was going so slow when i hit it, it just slid in ... The pond/ditch was filled with mud which i think softened the blow...

Have had it checked out by honda and apart from a broken grill and badly scuffed side seals (where it had to be winched out) - i got out remarkably scott free! Engine bay is quite muddy, condenser is slightly damaged with a few of the fin bars being broken but apparently in an operable state. Quite remarkable seeing as 50% of the bonnet was under mud!!
However, since having the rear tyres changed (they were low which was probably the cause) and driving it home, I've noticed I've got a few issues with the lights
The lights were full of muddy water when it was pulled out - luckily its all drained out now and the drivers headlamp seems fine - however, the passenger (N/S) still has some mud staining in it. To top it off, the side lamp on the drivers side isnt working, and the main/dipped beam on the passenger isnt working.
Apart from that, all other lights work fine...

So my question is;
a) how would you recommend i clean out the last bits of mud from the passenger lamp?
and
b) Do you think the dipped beam has just blown a bulb (same for side lamp on O/S) or do you think I've damaged the HiD?

Can the bulb be brought from the likes of Halfords etc.? I've seen talk of the bulbs costing

Oh dear, bit of a sticky start.

First off, HIDs operate at 20KV, so don't fark about with the blubs unless you know what you're doing, lest you die. And a 12V H1 (described as Xenon by Hell Frauds) it won't fit & it will explode.

You could use a heat gun to remove the lens, to clean out the light.

All in all, I'd get a professional to do it.

Good luck getting it sorted.

I'd get a new light

More likely the power than the tyres, even on good tyres that can happen

Do you think the water would have damaged the HID's then? not sure i like the sound of 20K Volts!

Surely the bulb can be replaced without having to fiddle with that side of things?

Everywhere i look for replacement S2K bulbs I'm getting hits like:
http://www.care4car.com/productdisplay/mod...enon_Bulbs.html

I'm guessing they are not actually any good then? Prob worth me clearing up what lights work and what don't:

O/S:
Indicator = good
Side light = bad
Main Beam/Dipped = good
Full Beam = good

N/S:
Indicator = good
Side light = good
Main Beam/Dipped = bad
Full Beam = good

Do the main lamps run on separate fuses? if so, its prob worth me checking these first then I guess!!...
any ideas on model numbers for the lights if it is just bulbs? Car is MY02.

I have been looking around for a spare light unit all day today but they seem hard to come by - any idea on prices i could expect to pay from a breakers?

Sorry for the Spanish inquisition! Typically had to happen to me at the most financially demanding time of year!
Just trying to get a idea of what i've got to pay out, and what i can do myself!

I'd recommend scouring the breakers (see list in For Sale) for the lights and any bits you need before paying new prices

Also try eBay...

There are a few ads like this.

Fenland Breakers are an excellent source of parts - and provide really good service.
