Default HELP, pissed off

Hi chaps, i serviced the car today.

Whilst finishing up tightening the oil filter i slipped and snapped this item off , can anyone tell me what it is? and what it used for?

I managed to glue it back on, and so far it has stayed put. Car has no CEL's and engages in vtec fine.

I fear it might come off even though it is securely in place, how easy is it to take it out and replace?

Circled in yellow, snapped it clean off it had a litte rod inside so i presume it for vtec or something??

Thanks in advance

AJ

That's the VTEC solenoid. Very easy to replace...only a few bolts.

It's the VTEC pressure switch IIRC.

Where did you snap it?

VTEC Oil pressure switch

You don't actually need it and JDM VTEC engines have never had the VTEC oil pressure switch.

My engine doesn't have it see

If you are in a pinch you can find a 5v out and bridge it - this is what I did when running a UK P28 ECU with a JDM b18C to save me buying a new VTEC Solenoid.

Cheers guys, thought it was to do with the vtec.

Mark, i snapped it clean off so there was a plastic ring left eg take a small vertical slice of a coke can 2mm thick. Pole with rod was intact. I guess it wont engage vtec if it was foooked?

This thing has a HEX at the end of it, you mean replace the whole thing as it looks like a big item according to Rons pic (cylinder and all).

It checks to see if oil pressure is enough before allowing VTEC to be engaged.

TBH, if this eventuallity comes to fruition, you have damaged your engine anyway and it isn't an RPM cut either.

I have no idea why Honda saw fit to put it on European/American cars, but the Japanese cars, with VTEC engines, have never had them.

Thanks for that Ron

So for time being order one but ill be fine? i will still fit another can i not just fit the item i broke? as it has a hex on the end of it.

Shame as after i finished servicing car, it was running like a champ.

Oh Ron heads up for you...have you changed the oil filter and took off sump plug yet?

A) It was a bitch to take off the oil filter due to the engine torque damper, i did it eventually, then when putting the new one on in a hurry as the missus had brought back fish and chips and slipped and snapped the above item

B) The ebay cusco copy lower front brace makes taking off the sump plug more difficult, depending on what tool you have i had to get another tool.
