Are you having a laugh!?

It is just the induction noise, put the air filter back on, put the lid back on the air filter box and the noise will go away.

Honestly, nothing to worry about.

It will sound like a jet fighter, but has the whine gone? there is a lot of air going through the engine thats normal. How does the filter look? is it dirty/damaged? I don't think you have anything to worry about, as gbduo said put it back to standard and see what happens.

The noise actually comes from a sensor on the side of the intake intake manifold. Its got a little spinning piece.

Mine came loose, threw a CEL code. When i put it in place, the noise started, took it off and it went away 100%, obviously it has to stay on though.

I'm sorry - after being told it's perfectly normal, you then TOOK THE AIR FILTER OFF?!

Yes, a trip to Honda IS required - to say "I'm terribly sorry, I've made a huge mistake and should probably own a Jazz"

This is one of the reasons I've kept the airbox lid on - as even with it ON I feel it sounds quite 'Dyson' like on idle, very electronic/whirry - not very 'agricultural' [I'm sure there's a better word!] or imposing. Not the type of sound you'd normally associate with a sports car/roadster.

Am I alone in this thinking?

Once you get going and work through the rev range though...

I think the same as you chet. When I got my s2k I was paranoid thinking that surely that noise isn't right for a sports car but I'm starting to get used to it now

If you've run your car without the air filter on you deserve a slap.. I hope you didn't go much further than your driveway.

Probably didn't help when one of the contributors to this thread told him to take the air filter off.

I hope this is a post 12pm April fools day wind up.

I certainly didn't intend the OP to do a tour of Europe without the filter on!, just listern to see if the whine had gone or if it was due to a damaged filter, simple diagnostic procedure, now if I'd told him to throw a handful of blasting shot down the intake that would have been daft.
