Default HKS fitted and continued diff problem ...

Well, the HKS Hiper has been fitted this morning and even before it has bedded in it sounds fantastic!

On the downside though, after fitting it Tim at Tuning Japanese took it out for a test drive, when he returned (apart from having a huge grin on his face!) he said there was a problem with the car! He took a turn at around 25mph and as he accelerated the front felt like it was pushed forward, almost like being on ice but the road was dry. He said it feels like the diff was locked.

Arrrrrggggghhhhhh!!! This is the second diff in 3 months!!

What can I do?? The technician at Fleet Honda who changed the diff on both occasions is supposed to be one of Honda's top diagnostic guys and is supposed to be familiar with the S2000.

I think a strongly worded letter to Honda is about to be written.

- Frisky.

Adam,

Sorry to hear that mate. I was with PWE this morning at the HKS place in Wigan and we did wonder how the diff was going with yours. Hope they sort it soon.

Incidentally we were offered

The boominess is not that bad with the hardtop - I found it to be worse with the soft top.

The main thing is too change gear at 3000rpm which is just about the right speed to change gears according to the manual - I think...

I love the exhaust - have you guys touched the edge of the exhaust after a drive - you could cook an egg on it!

I don't remember the stock exhaust getting that hot!

Going up through the gears, mine doesn't stay at 3,000 rpm long enough to boom and I never travel at a constant 3,000 rpm; therefore, the 3,000 rpm boom (which I admit is there and about which I have posted before) is no problem whatsoever for me

I am getting used to it pretty quickly! I just need to adjust my driving style a little if I want to avoid the boom, no big deal.

For some reason though I have found myself driving around with the stereo off and the window down since Saturday - can't think why!

Re the diff : I have just got back from another visit to Fleet Honda after speaking to Honda UK who do not have any technical information and just suggested I contact a different dealer if I was unhappy. Anyway, I am not unhappy with Fleet Honda so I took it back and tried to explain that although I could not sense any problem someone else had - unsurprisingly there was little they could do. Then I had a bright idea and asked them if the Nurburg Blue S2000 out the front was their demonstrator - it was so I asked if I could drive it to compare ... very interesting!

It was an MY02 with hardtop on but the first think I noticed was the droning sound that I have complained about for so long was on this car too! Great, that means it is normal and I don't have to worry about it. I took it to a housing estate and did a couple of full lock starts and it did the same as mine, ie. the inside wheel tried to spin, I thought this was the diff not allowing the wheels to turn at different speeds. Overall it felt almost the same as mine to drive.

So I guess Tim is just not used to driving a stock S2000, too much playing with Maca's car I suspect!!

The big test will be next week when I go up to Manchester again, we will see if the grinding the old diff did when hot is still there or not.
