HOT NUTS!
OK I have Red HOT NUTS and it's no laughing matter, stop the giggling at that back.I have had a slight whirring/grinding noise on the back axle for a few weeks now, imagine a disk pad rubbing on your plates just gently, that is what it sounds like, can only hear it with the roof up, but I notice it. Anyhow got out of the car after a spirited run tonight, and checked all wheels to the touch, the driver side rear was pretty warm the others where barely warm ... however I touched the wheel nuts on the driver side rear and they were red hot, too hot to keep your finger on, can someone diagnose what they think this is, I suspect a wheel bearing but I really don't know, thanks for any help.
It's not Rear caliper sticking, nor heat sheild, nor pads this is for certain.

Agreed - if it was a bearing, i'd be expecting a little more noise ... although it's the axle that is in direct contact with the nuts ...
My money would be on a sticking slide pin rather than a stuck caliper piston although i'd check for play in the wheel also.
Failing that - get Dave to hoist it onto a ramp and have a good look at brake /. driveshaft / bearings etc.

You need to check the disk temperature, to eliminate sticking brakes. Preferable NOT using your finger, as that could be very painful and not particularly accurate.
It could be a dry wheelbearing, but always fully eliminate the simpler options first.

Using the finger once is an exceptional way of teaching yourself why not to in future.

Ah; that could be it.
I seem to remember someone with a FIAT or PSA or something, who lost a rear wheel after the garage hugely overtightened the hub after a brake shoe change!

OK so, a good day down at Daytona Autos today with the crew, and a quick run out then back on the ramps and Ray diagnosed that my problem is indeed the wheel bearing.
