Unhappy How do I...

...Transfer a private plate off my car and keep it on retention so i can sell it??

- Is it a simple and painless exercise?

- How long should i allow for the DVLA to sort themselves out and supply me with a replacement reistration number?

- How much is it going to cost me?

I currently have S200 OXX on my car and it has been on the car since i have owned it.

As i'm selling my S, I need to maximise the return on my investment and as the plate will not directly add value to the car, I would like to return it to its original registration.

Cheers

So, when you've transferred it, you are still technically the owner of said private plate and therefore eligible to sell it to whomever you choose?

Do you get any form of proof from the DVLA to prove that you are the owner, that you then pass on to the buyer?

What do the 'S200 OXX' plates sell for, normally?

You'll get a retention certificate.

I think I requested the relevant forms from the DVLA website and they posted them out to me - I couldn't find them in the Post Office.

Can't remember which form either, but I do recall it wasn't hard to find the relevant section on the website. Forms arrived pretty quickly too.

I think you can download and print out the forms from the DVLA website. That should make it a bit quicker.

What's the going rate for 'S200 OXX' plates? Don't seem to be able to find any in the FS section for reference!
