a few questions from an in car stereo novice....

i,m happy with the stock 04 head unit (i drive mostly roof down so i dont need a fantastic quality sound) but wish to add some rear speakers, ive been looking at the S-Pods as these seem to be a good fit etc.
I was thinking of using component speakers but theres no point in getting speakers that are better than the head unit can service. so any thoughts?

1. can i just hook up the rear speakers to the back of the head unit and thats it, ie the front rear fade will work?

2. any suggestions as to specific speakers , make model etc. (dont forget i'm keeping the stock head unit)

3. any comments on the 's-pods' expensive/the dogs danglys/spoil my hair do ... etc.

4. are rear speakers really worth the aggro

5. why am i on the pc and not out waxing my car (awaiting Zaino!)

1. No! There are no wires on the Honda loom for rear speakers.

I think the 04 might have the wiring already in place since the dealers can fit the optional speakers to the car. I think MT recently connected rear speakers to his 04 car, he would therefore know if the wiring is available.

 

1. No the wiring isnt available on the 04 IIRC. You can just plug them in and the rear/front fade will work AFAIK

2. dunno for the Spods, but plenty of people have used some in the rear panels - JBL P42's are used by a few incl me and StevenM

3. Condiser just putting some 4.5 / 5.25 speakers in the rear panels - although I would like a comparison with the spods.

Check out the home made spods Mark someone from the US makes them - there was a thread recently in the UK FS&W forum. Dont get the expensive Honda ones.

If it's anything like the MY00 the pins will be on the stereo but there will be no wiring in the harness.

You can bodge this if you want or try and find another connector and use the pins out of that. To bodge...

Strip a wire to the appropriate length,
Solder the wire so it is rigid with a nice big dollop of solder
Remove the harness from the stereo
Unclamp the wire harness (plastic clamps are on the top and the bottom of the harness)
Slide the wire into the desired hole
Reclamp the harness - should hold the wire in place
Put the wiring harness back into the back of the stereo

Should only take 15mins or so

Rear speakers have made a huge difference to the ICE in my car. I cut the rear panels - like Lucid

thanks people, been looking more and i think the difference between the 'spods' and the honda speakers are that the honda have left and right speakers behind each headrest whilst the spods remain one speaker each headrest ie left for passenger and right for driver.... prefer the honda idea better.
