Default Ice Upgrade

Hello everyone

First topic post so be gentle...

I'm looking to replace our OEM 2004 CD player with a MP3 CD player (USB would be nice with the option to upgrade to MP3 CD changer later).
I've done my searches and most of the information on the forum suggests sticking with Alpine to retain the dash controls.

I have a budget of around

My questions are:

Will an Alpine unit work from the box or will I still need all the cables / interface bits?
Have any of you fitted a HU for that budget and what did you go for?
If I get the right interface cable will any HU work that supports steering controls?
Are Alpine units a good match for the speakers (including headrest ones) or is there another band I should look at?
Having had four S's and 7 ICE setups in them I can tell you the following;

1) none of the aftermarket HU work with the dash interface "out of the box" by far the best DCI is the modifry (I've tried a few!)

Thanks guys.
Out of interest is there a UK dealer for the Modifry DCI? If not how long do they take to ship from the US of A?

Good thread. I have the standard ICE in mine and its a bit lacking.

I take it adding components and a second set of speakers is a must along with the HU?

I agree with all of the above. However, the Pioneer range is a good one too. I have the P75BT, which has a bluetooth hands free kit as well, abeit slightly above your budget. The non-Bluetooth units in the Pioneer range are worth a look. I've got it without an amp and originally had the stock speakers. I massively improved the sound, although you'll never get it loud enough for faster roof-down driving without adding speakers (or suffering massive distortion).

Hope that adds something to the discussion

Chris
