immobilizer / alarm problems - HELP!!
Looking for a bit of advice.....
I'm having an alarm/ immobiliser issue with the car that I re-building. The scenario is as follows:
- connect battery, alarm goes off.
- press immobiliser on key fob, nothing happens.
- put key in ignition and alarm stops but hazard warning lights start flashing.
- turn ignition key, press big red button, nothing happens.
- press immobiliser on key fob and then press srart button, still nothing happens.
- remove key and alarm starts again.
Has anyone got any ideas on what the problem might be - or what the solution is?
The only thing I can think of is that its something to do with the door being knackered. The drivers door does not shut at the moment because it was badly damaged in the crash - I'm sure the lock has been damaged, could this be the problem. You should be able to start the car with the drivers door open?
I know this is a particularly specialist question but I would be very grateful if anyone could put me in contact with a dealership or a machanic at a dealership that they hold in high regard?
I vaguely remember that someone on this board had their car looked after Honda's Mechanic of the year - perhaps this chap could help me? My local dealership has been less than helpful
Any help/ideas/contacts would be very gratefully received.
Matt

A few questions ...
Is this a standard UK car with the Honda UK installed CAT1 two button plipper ? If so ...
Which button have you been plipping ? The sticking in one should deactivate the alarm, the sticking out one should activate it.
How many flashes on the indicators ? I'd have to go back to the manual, but I recall that the number does tell you what's up.
What's the LED on the centre console doing ? Should be off for deactivated, flashing for armed.
btw, you can start the car with the doors open.

Knowing SFA about this - but trying to relate it to something that happened to me.
If you disconnect the battery with the alarm armed - it goes off.
Therefore if you re-connect the battery with the alarm armed - it shd go off (change of status)
If you disarm the alarm before re-connecting the battery???
Yep you can start car with door open.
I'll get my coat

- The car is standard UK car (Jan '00) with the CAT1 2 button plipper.
- I have been pressing the sticky in one to turn off the alarm with no response (I've also changed the battery in it)
- When pressing the plipper the green immobiliser on the dash does not come on.
- The indicators flash at a pretty similar rate to when the Hazards are on and continue going as long as the key is in the ignition.
- Not 100% sure about the LED on the centre console, but I think it remains flashing.
Any ideas will be much appreciated!!
Cheers

Before anything else, are you sure you've got the right keys?

I'd concur with Brian. If the green immobiliser light doesn't come on, and the red alarm LED stays flashing, your key ain't doing a lot.
What does sound weird is that your indicators stay flashing if the keys are in the ignition - I'd expect that to happen if the alarm had been triggered, but no sound ? Is the alarm sounder connected ?
I'm afraid I can't really be much more help.
I'd try and get a bit more info out of Honda - maybe an install guide, or at least contact details of the manufacturer. Surely the prospect of you servicing your car there can encourage them ?
In a worst case scenario if you had to replace the alarm, I'd recommend Clifford.

Why don't you call Honda UK?
I had a simple-minded alarm problem - had conflicting advice from dealers. The customer care desk contacted the technical desk (which is apparently where the dealers go) and came back with an answer. Great Worth a try.

that'd be me. The mech. is Graham Roger at Holden Honda, Norwich 01603 219660. I suggest you ask for Glenn in Service Reception.
Glenn and the boys in SR are bikers so love their roads, engines and tyres. Mention I recommended them. Roger Cole (RC, Ar Sie phonetically) or Mr. Cole as they call me
