Import Transportation
As this is my first post, I would just like to say that this is by far the most helpful forum I have come across. You can read a thousand reviews and not learn as much as I have about what it is actually like to live with the S2000 on a daily basis. So thanks guys/gals for posting such valuable information and opinions.
Anyway, I am a soon-to-be owner of a '02. I have gone the DIY way and ordered direct from a dutch dealer and I was wondering if any of you who imported can recommend a company that will transport the car back the the UK and (optionally) provide registration service etc. I have heard of companies such as CCS, Richard Lawson, Cars from Europe etc. but I wanted to know if any of you have actually used one of these and had any comments.
Also have any of gone for one of these body treatments that one can get on a new car? Is it recommended (esp. after reading your nicks/chips post)? Advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there and welcome aboard!
I too was amazed at what a great resource this is when I first stumbled across it, its just a shame there isn't greater publicity of it in the UK
I can't help on the Euro transportation thing but I'm sure someone will chime in.
On the paint protection issue, I'm not sure what direction you are thinking of going with this but I don't think that the lifetime polish treatments that dealers offer will be any protection against stone chips, the only proven way (I think!) is the 3M clear cover / Stonguard route where the nose of the car is covered in a very thin layer of transparent plastic. This really does work but gives a slightly visible edge line on the bonnet. Failing that you could buy one of the lovely bras that the US guys have - very attractive!
I don't think the paintwork is any worse than most modern cars but given its low slung nature and the speeds in can do I think it is pretty vulnerable to stone chips etc.

I used http://www.walon.co.uk they were very cheap, picked the car up in Belgium and transported it all the way to my front door for
Welcome!
Any reason not to pick it up yourself? It's quite exciting and euro motorways help to run the car in.
Registration in UK is dead easy. A form at your local registration office and a cheque, together with the invoice, insurance and Dutch registration certificate are all that's needed.
We used a dealer in Brussels, because the Eurotrash takes you there from Waterloo and the seafood and beer in the old town are excellent!

big problem I had here was insurance, I tried a few UK insurers and no one would cover the car fully comp until it was in the UK, the Belgian dealer could have got me trade plates fro 150GBP but these only cover you third party and the thought of driving a 22K RHD car on LHD roads third party was too much, plus the transprt firm could deliver it fully insured and far cheaper than I if I had picked the car upself.
Thanks for the info. I would agree with Jason that insurance is a problem with picking it up myself and although you miss out on the drive, I think it's slightly more cost effective having it delivered.
mrsoften, I look forward to hearing your comments on CCS, they are the cheapest quote I have had so far.
Since Tifosi Red mentioned it, do any of your guys have comments on the "lifetime" polish treatments that I see advertised? is it effective? Cost efficient?
