Default Importer help needed - Quick question.

Experienced importers,

Quick question, when is the VAT due on the car? I have heard 30 days after car is in the country with 90 days to pay. Any clarification would be much appretiated.

Hi Often,

I read it in a post before and someone said that you have an installment option - which can be spread over 6 months...

Im pretty sure installments are not allowed particuarly spead over 6 months. As kevin says, you notify the VAT people when it comes into the country, theres a VAT form to complete. Send this off and they will send you a bill that must be paid within 30 days.

Check the Customs and Excise site www.hmce.gov.uk it has some guidance on it.

Often,

if your using an importer they will probably fill the VAT forms in for you, if its DIY (Mine was) then you are required to fill the forms in, infact you are not allowed to register the car unless you have the completed forms which DVLA will kindly send to CofE for you, nice chaps .

Good Luck

Jason
