The Infamous 'MAP Whack'
I took my new [to me] S2000 down to the south coast today [from Central London] to show it off to my cousins. Needless to say it was a b*tch of a drive and we spent a good chunk of Sunday crawling along in traffic followed by a few blasts of overtaking and then going back down to crawling speeds.
As the journey progressed the car began to grumble a bit. It got harder to pull away smoothly without kangarooing and a few of times when accelerating it would feel pretty hesitant. We stopped off in East Grinstead and gave the sensor its first [gentle] MAPWhack. This seemed to sort things out and the rest of the journey was okay.
On the way back, by the time we got to the Brixton it was getting a less smooth again.
Optimistic maybe but I

How old is your S?
There is a MAP fix which involves a plastic tie, dealer should do this for you.
There was a thread a while back on the US side saying be careful with the MAP whack as sometimes there is an underlying problem and the whack just masks it for a bit longer.

I've pulled up a number of threads which talk about the plastic tie. What does this actually do? - It it designed to prevent the plug moving about within the sensor's socket? - Could you acheive the same thing by cleaning the contacts and then cable tying the plug back in place?

Think MrV had it done a while back, may be worth giving him a shout.

So this MAP sensor problem will not throw a code?
And I can clean the contacts, then re-install the pug and zip tie it?
Lastly, if I take it to the dealer, they should replace it for free? They didn't mention anything about this to me when I had my taillamps replaced due to recall.

I have a brand new (in bag) sensor that I bought from the US. PM me if you want to buy it. Can't really discount it as it's cheap enough but you will get it ASAP and won't have customs worries
