Injectors
Asked a cleaning place and they don't seem to know anything.
They know their stuff
Well... woohoo! Just had the call to say the car is running perfectly. I went with new injectors from Spoon in the end for a lot less than Honda wanted, though I wasn't expecting them to take so long to arrive or I might have put a bit more effort into the cleaning approach.
The Spoon ones do supposedly give a performance boost, so I decided that was worth the cost of new parts over trying to clean the old ones.
So it seems injectors can and do get dirty and/or fail. It would be nice to know why, but I suspect it's been building for some time and me running out of fuel last easter probably did no good at all.

Normally, the biggest cause of 'dirt' in the petrol is actually water, form poorly-maintained garage tanks.
It's probably too time-consuming for the dealer to claen the fuel system properly.
I can't see worn indirect-injection squirters being a problem. A DI's a different thing.
