I used them a few years ago when I had my Civic, they did a BHP limit on the insurance, so as many mods up to a certain BHP before they charged any limit. They wouldn't insure me on the S due to inexperience, but it seems they will again.

Friendly bunch too. Had a good chinwag with one of the guys about NCB and how they work it out.

I've not come to renew this year yet, but when I was looking last time I noticed, quite counter intuitively, that the premium was lower if the car was 'kept on the road' than if it was 'on the drive' or 'in the garage'.

Bonkers.

Bonkers.
The "logic" behind that supposedly is

1: a criminal won't know which house to break into to get the keys; and
2: if said criminal did get your keys, they'd still have to find your car

It's not "logic", it's experience.

Cars parked on the road are subject to lower claims levels than those parked in garages or on driveways, ergo the premium is lower.
As well as the increased risk of theft (a garage gives thieves cover for more time enabling them to bypass securty systems) you're more likely to hit the garage or driveway wall with the car than when parked on the road.

Should have said with the above, my insurance is with Axa. Though I'm lucky to live in a good area which helps no end with a cheap insurance quote.

Renewal quote from DirectLine £483 with £400 xs
Cheapest on comparison sites £430 with Privilege for £350 xs

Ran my details again through DirectLine website as new customer £381 with £400xs

Weird thing is I tried lower mileage of 2k as I only managed 1.3k last year and the quote was higher!
If you put your mileage too low they will raise price as they will take the view of you dont drive enough so you will be bad at it (lack of experience).

I find 10,000 is a happy medium.

Not sure where you get this info from. Its not a rule in our rating algorithms. In fact we definitely prefer lower mileages.
