Plenty of people run expensive cars on a budget

I can think of one person I know who ran a performance car on remoulds

He used to say "I never go above the speed limit, so why bother with expensive tyres"

I don't know if he ever did have a prang

I do remember the interest the Police and assesor took in my tyres when I rolled a car once

Like I said Rob, if a tyre's legal, it's legal...

How could the insurers refuse to pay out? Tyres are consumables.

FWIW I know that rental companies change the tyres on their cars before they go out for hard-compound numbers so they last longer.

Don't think so. Like most things they only have to come up to a fairly low minimum standard (i.e. the MOT). Pleanty of cars have terrible brakes as standard.

I guess if you fitted tyres of the wrong speed rating there might be an issue.
