Default Insuring a second car

The wife has just got a new car so we thought we may as well keep her old one (VW polo, worth about £2000) as it's low miles and I do a lot of motorway driving in the week. What are the best ways to insure the old car with an S2000 as my main car (and she now has a Merc A Class)? We were just going to let het existing policy run out, though her existing insurers have told her that she won't be able to get any NCB on the new car if this is the case, so I think she probably needs to transfer her existing policy.

I always insure my S2K and a beater under a Admiral dual policy come winter time. I expect alot of companies do these sort of things. Just phone your current one and ask. Admiral let me do the S2K fully comp and the beater 3rd party.

I was looking into doing the same thing - Admiral multi car for all three cars was going to be by far the cheapest. It also lets you mix between cover and business use.

Yes, Admiral multicar for me too. Awesome quotes with all mods declared on all 3cars (2x sols, 1 xs2k). Only gripe is that the mods are not like for like. Online quotation system is the best I've used too.

Check out the alternatives though. I found having two policies was cheaper, but that was with having a couple of years no claims on the second policy already. And when I first had a second car, I found the AA would take into account my no claims on a seperate policy and give me a much cheaper premium than everybody else. But then the next year, with 1 years no claims, that changed.

As always with insurance, YMMV.

I am with Admiral (S2k as main car) and recently added a daily diesel slugger. Must admit, bit disappointed they dont mirror no claims bonus like MORETHAN do. Morethan wont insure the S2, so stuck with admiral.

On my second car - Mondeo TDCI, the initial quote to add to the policy was nearly as much as the S2k!! - bit of negotiation and it dropped by £150, but still £100 more than if I was insuring it as my main car..

Not as good as it seems, but pays to haggle

They mirrored my girlfriend's ncb, strange? I guess this could be a decision they make considering the circumstances - no points/no claims made etc. per application

Thanks - it probably makes sense to insure both together on a policy for my wife (with me as a named driver on the slugger) as you probably get more options with a Merc A150 as with an S2000 as the main car?

Another for Admiral - I have Civic and Evora with them and they recently did me 30 day cover on the S with mods for £70 which was excellent! Unfortunately they won't touch the van so that is elsewhere. Have been very happy with them thus far though I guess the real proof of worth is when you have to claim!

Liverpool Victoria allowed us to add the S2000 with full NCB to the wife's galaxy policy and the full NCB will follow both cars when the policy ends. Instant full NCB.
