According (no pun intended) to the BA Business Life magazine,
- Honda is the 8th biggest car manufacturer in terms of sales
- Honda has a market value as much as Ford and GM combined
- Honda made 2.9 million cars in 2002 vs GM + Ford making 15 million but Honda makes a much larger profit on it's vehicles.
- and interestingly, in terms of value, Toyota is as big as GM, Ford & DamilerChrysler put together!!
Other interesting quotes:
"Honda is a much smaller compnay (than Toyota) - a motorcycle and engine maker made good. Unlike Toyota, it has shied away from joint ventures with american giants and European aspirants. Honda is the most independantly minded maker in the world. It goes its own way. And, unlike most maveriks, its own way has been more profitable than the mainstream."
"Honda has another advantage, one that all its Japanese rivals - even Toyota - covet. It has an image. Not as good as the best Europeans, like BMW or Mercedes, but an image, all the same: one that goes beyond the white-goods-on-wheels slur (reliable but characterless) that dogs Toyota and other Japanese makers. THIS IS THE BEST BIT.... It has an image that appeal to youth-ful minded, brand-concious big spenders."
"Honda builds sought-after sports cars, none greater than the NSX (NO MENTION OF THE S )- which was better than any Ferrari when launched and did much to boost the company's pedigree. It has a quirkiness and savvy that apeals to progressives".

I remember hearing a story of a visit from Honda dignataries to Rover and while touring the factory, they noticed a man stood away from the production line holding a long lump of 3x2. It transpired that this man was responsible for final fit and finish QA on the cars and, if he found a car where the door alignment wasn't perfect, he wedged his 3x2 in between the hinges and "realigned" the doors manually. No wonder they told him to take a break during the factory tour...

And I had an A reg Triumph Acclaim (when I was a student) that was really a rebadged Honda Accord. Ahh now there was a car, knee deep in tab packets, coke cans, cassette covers. Only broke down once in two years (so it must have been more Honda than Triumph. )when it overheated on the M6

the re-alignment of doors hasnt changed much over the years....
i work at the shitty car factory in scumderland and they do it with a rubber mallet!!!
