Thumbs up Interior Dashboard lighting gone v v wrong

right, was driving the other night and all of a sudden the dash lit up like it does in the day time, i mean the rev gauge was sooooo bright and the speedo was bright, and all other interior lights had decided to turn off so it was like i was driving in the day....if you get what i mean.

I did not touch any of the controls at this time, iwas merely cruising in 6th and all of a sudden the brightness caught my eye as it changed...

despite turning lights on, lights off, engine off and on, nothing would make the dash dim and other panel lights come on, has anyone had any experience with this?

the only things that i did prior to this, which i believe may have had an effect are the following...

about a week or so before i installed my pioneer head unit and ipod kit, and everything seemed fine.

then the day before it happened i installed the InCarTec head unit remote control adaptor thingy, which is quite a large unit, so things were quite tight behind the stereo, but i managed, at a push (literally) to get the thing back flush. the day after, an couple of hours or so before the above light thing i washed the car and then the alarm kept going off, 4 times in total in 4 minutes, stopping after i had gone out and unlocked/relocked and going off again as i got comfy again. i thought this coulve been due to the washing of the car (seemed coincidental thats all) yet it pissed me off so i did the only thing i could think of at the time and took outthe InCarTec adaptor, and the alarm stopped....strange...no?

Then, as i said, about 15 minutes later i drove off and this is when the lights problem happened....any ideas guys im stumped?!

and if it is because of the stereo etc, or if that is the gerneal consensus, does anyone have an OEM head unit for a 2001Y model, so that i can take it to honda and say that it must be their fault and to fix it so they dont try and blame it on me? I'm in the York area......

Many thanks guys....sorry if its a bit of a long read, wanted to give as much info as possible from the off..............................

Does sound like you've stressed some wires in the loom that have lead to a short somewhere.

You've obviously tried dimming the dash lights again with the button on the dash ????

If you press and hold the plus sign when lights are on, the dash brightens up.

04 Dashes are brighter anyway - as proven by Carpers DashBrite

Talk nicely to the Chief Technician who runs the maintenance wing at your station and have him get one of his sparks on the case
