Default Interior Noises

After driving over 1400 miles in the past week I have finally realised my S2000 interior rattles, sqeaks, vibrates hell of a lot from several different places. The car has only done 15.5K miles.

I've tried the obvious solution, turn the stereo up louder but then the ringing in my ears also irritates me.

Does anyone else out there have the same problems, or is my car interior just badly fitted and held together by selotape

there is a US TSB for dealers to relube the hood mechanism and pad out the roof catches. This would sort most of the creaks and rattles I guess, but good luck getting a UK dealer to do it for you.

Search on White Lithium Grease and you might find it..

OK, it's no Honda saloon, but compared to most roadsters, it's rock solid. (Apart from the odd judder/rattle caused by an empty passenger seat, of course)

I get various squeaks and rattles as well, but it's very much dependant on road surface.

oh, and check these.

The nut which holds down the Spare Wheel comes loose and rattles (sounds like it's inside the car).

The passenger seat belt buckle knocks against the side panel when there is noone in the passenger seat. Plug it in to stop it rattling.

Check the usual, passenger seatbelt catch knocking on pax door. Roof catches, get them replaced, I am. Get it all lubed up.

My hardtop squeaked all last year from the front left, only when the chassis twisted going over uneven sufaces. I'm going to make sure this doesn't happen this year, I'll go nuts!

I'm sure I'm not the first to have done this, but if you go to Hobbycraft (the out of town craft retailer), they sell A4 sheets of black adhesive foam about 3 mm thick. I have cut these up and lined my main and "secret" compartments and this stops anything stored there from rattling.

In terms of a persistent squeak, I followed the advice in the FAQ and oiled my bonnet catch and this seems to have sorted that one.

The other noises I pick up are mostly a bit of "gearbox resonance" or buzz but these seem to be dependent on revs and road surface.

In short, the S is no more rattly than my Chimaera was ...

I was going nuts because of a rattle I could have sworn was coming from behing the dash. It turns out it was the drivers side sun visor rattling - to check for this just move it down 1cm or so - it should sit quite happily here and allow you to drive about and see if it is the source of any of your problems. If it is, just stick a little black foam on the header bar/windscreen frame that it rests against.

(This thread is turning into '101 uses for black sticky foam'!)

so that's what that squeek behind me is. i was convinced that it was the hood frame but now i come to think about it, i took the spare wheel out a few weeks ago in an attempt to make a bit more space to get a suitcase in. (didn't need to in the end, taking the trim out on its own gave enough space to get the case in). i must have disturbed it.

I get all the same noises, especially when the car is cold and the roof is up. Had everything re-lubed etc and made no difference. The seats make too much noise as well, when the wife is in the passenger seat it makes lots of noise when we are on the move, mine is a little noisy too.

Very irritating, but unfortunately a quirk of the car.
