Default ITBs

At the risk of infuriating Bada Bing (see the thread about next cars!), I've been thinking what to replace my S2000 with... and one of the options is to modify what I've got.

I have the feeling my S2K with some decent suspension, uprated brakes and about 300-310bhp would be perfect. I've seen a vid on Google of an American 2000 model S with ITBs and a stainless exhaust, and bloody hell does it sound good!

But the other consideration is to supercharge it, which I know has been done by Dark Blue Mark on here. I kind of veer away from this idea because I'm against forced induction and prefer the throttle response that ITBs would give, but how much power would ITBs and an exhaust liberate compared to the supercharger (which I'm also guessing would also give me a lot more usable torque)? Anyone got any ideas on costs for the two projects? Or recommendations?

Oh, and I want the car looking fairly standard as well; I like the idea of a sleeper.

Matt

Foz used a set of Jenvey's on his 'race' S2000 and saw little over stock bhp (maybe 10 or so bhp). I think torque was a bit better (not much more peak torque, but more under the curve), but not hugely.

Seems plenty of people have tried staying N/A and getting more, but without forced induction there seems to be little to be had from the F20C that Honda haven't already found.

You could always try lightening the car I guess....

For NA power you will need CAM's, ECU,and a single type exhaust system, then look at a stoker kit, then i'd look at ITB for that last few BHP.

Is 300bhp possible with just NA?

Yes , but like most you wouldn't pay for it. The F20c can be made to give up more power but as its already a high state of tune you are into

With a 2.5l stoker kit + high tune setup i'm sure i've read 380bhp !!

OR maybe that was GT4 ? lol

I know that the Amuse GT1 prototype uses a blown F20C (albeit one bored out to 2.2 litres), so I'm guessing the block/head can take a fair bit of tweaking. Yeah, I've always known that Hondas can't be tuned too much NA, but there should be a bit of room for manoeuvre. It drops out of warranty in January, you see...

But Jesus, that US S2000 sounds SOOOOOOOOO good!

MarkB, I'm guessing lightening the car would involve stripping out the sound deadening and removing the electric hood motors? Would that push it down to about 1100kg, or am I wildly over-estimating things?

I know the one you mean but if you time his gear changes and correlate that to approximate the time taken to accelerate to the top end of 3rd gear you'll realise it isn't that much quicker than a stock S2000. In short for the money spent he's not achieved much in the performance department. I'd get a supercharger, which is in keeping with the character of the car and engine, or a TVR

Sound deadening, dunno, not much more than 20-30kg.

Electric motor, again dunno but say 20kg as an optimistic guess.

Seats are relatively heavy, you could probably lose a few kg by ditching some trim, some of the ancillaries (air con compressor, washer bottle) - not much of an everyday car if you want to go light though.....
