Default Jacking

Stupid question maybe, but my Halfords trolley jack won't fit under the sides of the S. Is there a better way of jacking from the front/rear, or are there lower jacks readily available, or do people drive onto blocks or something first? Obviously the scissor jack works, but that takes ages.

My Halfords Trolley jack does. Try pushing the jack right down first, sometimes it will not retract all the way just by itself

Get a mate to lift it slightly on one corner, or if you have no mates, drive a wheel onto a plank of wood for extra height.

I've found this too, literally 1/4" too low for the trolley jack - The driving onto a piece of wood works nicely, or you can start jacking a bit with the scissor jack, remove it and then slip the trolley jack under before the car fully settles down again

Or use the OEM one under the sill for an couple of inches then do the center jack point with the trolley for the full lift!

Ta. Yes I've pushed the jack as far down as it'll go, and there's not much in it, so something under the wheel will probably do it.

What do people do for axle stands? I assume they should go under the same jacking points?

For the rear just lift the car on the bottom of the diff.

The front as everyone else says, start with a scissor jack or drive onto a couple of pieces of wood.

Axle stands, should go under the axles.

But what exactly is an axle?
