Default Jacking up

OK anorak time.....

Just got a 2-tonne jack from Halfords (freebie axle stands....), and it doesn't fit under the car!!!

How do people jack their car's up? Do I need to build some wheel ramps out of a couple of pieces of 4x2?

Felt pretty too.....

I just didn't fancy using a sicsor jack on an airfield and droping the car on its disks

LOL................... Muppet

Use the scissor jack to lift the car enough to slip the shiny new (trolley ??) jack underneath.

Just to make you feel better, my trolley jack fits underneath just fine

I hope you are not jacking the car to fit your new air horns

Andy, been there, normal bottle jack wont fit under what I do is use sissor jack to give me just enough clearance to get the bottle jack under. When letting the car down you don't need the sissor jack as the car will be left artificially high on its suspension until it settles, so you can pull the bottle jack straight out.

You're not alone...

Jack Thread...

Though there are some that fit under.

Oh yeah. LOL.

It's nice having Andy acting as test pilot for horns, jacks, leather console cover, 245 wide standard S02's etc.

Thanks Andy

AnDy - Have you checked that your spacers haven't been left in

I think the easiest solution is to get a bit of 6x2 and drive onto it.

Console cover update .... remember to order the RHD version (thanks Rick spotted that one)

SO2PP's I think the separating compound has just about been worn away. Initial impressions are that there's more front end bite and they're a lot quieter. Not had much water so I don't know how they are in the wet (and the reason I bought them). Brake away into oversteer is more progressive, it feels like a slide rather than a snap. This may be down to my driving much more smoothly..... The difference in tread pattern is very noticeable

Horn's are on hold now until after the weekend. Got to put 5.1 into the Impreza.... (Lets hope I don't screw that one up!)

Ok next question is, where's the central lifting point?

Kwick-Fit (god bless'em) lifted it on the seams. Nice couple of very small dents in the seam now OK got to be anal to see them....

I'd intended lifting it on the wishbone mount....

TIA

Has anyone tried ramps?

I've a couple of Halfords jobs I've used for years - quicker and safer than jacks, etc.

I've a feeling they might remove the air deflectors on the S2K!

Having said (typed) that, with the legendary lack of torque, a lot of cluch spin might be required.

I remember an old Fiat 127. You had to rev its nuts off to get it up there. With unequal length driveshafts, one wheel would bite (drivers side, I think) and drag the ramp under the wheel. Due to the minimal weight, the left ramp under shorter drive reaction and less weight would be fired off forwards, leaving the car in a really odd stance up one ramp and half way up the other!
