Hi, I've had a J's manifold fitted to my 06. I'm having an issue where when I turn left, I can feel a vibration through the steering wheel.

Had a look at the underside, basically the manifold has been touching the steering column.

Any idea what the issue may be? Engine mounts appear fine, there's obviously no adjustment in the manifold as it bolts directly to the head.

 

Very odd, I've never heard of a Js having a problem (I've fitted many of them!)

Is it a genuine one?

 

It looks it and I bought it off AquaEagle so no reason to doubt its authenticity. He said he's not had the same issue on his car.

 

Yup that's a genuine one then.

Pics? I'm sure there are other 06 people who have one (mines 06 non dbw) and I don't believe the engine or steering column is any different on later cars. Slightly bent column?

Mine touches ever so slightly on full lock; however it shouldn't be touching otherwise. You sure you haven't bent one of the exhaust bolts?

 

Bent what bolt? The manifold is tight against the head, not sure how anything could be bent?

I didn't fit it, a local garage did, but they didn't mention anything to me.

Here's a pic, it's easier to see from the underside but I didn't take any when it was on the ramp.

 

It happened exactly the same with my Skunk 2 after I had it ceramic coated at Zircotec!

I put a shim on the engine mount to tilt the engine (just 2-3mm thick) and also fitted an Engine damper that helped to keep engine in position. No rubbing again!
I also got the engine damper pretty cheap from Megan racing I think and it is a nice blue anodized colour and similar to the J's one.

 

A shim is a good idea,my turbo was touching my Xmember so I shimmed the engine mount,I later found out the engine mount had melted and had no integrity,hence that's why it was sagging.

American mounts are different to UK ones a in they slightly bias the gearstick to the left for Lhd cars.Just saying that by the amount you need to shim it it will make no difference to the oil pickup or anything.

 

I found another post on here suggesting an engine torque damper.
