Damage at a single point on the front edge of the bonnet is common if an engine crane has been used.

The hood is aluminum so it's not rusting. But galvanic corrosion is present (dissimilar metals). These need to be insulated from each other as they form a dry cell battery and one will eat the other as electrons are exchanged. Paint and a rubber seal are used on our cars. Salt water between the metals "helps" the corrosion process. There's gotta be a Wiki on this.

You just need a good independent body shop to do the job properly, Honda quoted me £400 to respray the bonnet on mine, it just had a one inch scratch. My local guy quoted me £90, in the end my boss at work drove into my car so I ended up with practically a full respray as a bargain non insurance job.
Thanks for that, will look around and see if it's worth the cost.

Ah I see thanks for the clarification, I thought it was weird that aluminium could rust??
So that would mean that the hood is somehow touching metal at a location(s), and the water underneath the hood is not helping.
Will definitely get some touch up paint for the time being then to help reduce this, even though it will look mighty ugly.
Cheers.

Thanks for that Steve. Yeh, would love to get back to racing again, but more track based this time - wanting to take baby steps and get more comfortable with the car first.
Competed in autokhanas back in Aus for 3 seasons in my fairly tuned dc5r, but had to stop everything for a while (2 lil kids came along )

After a look around, carlimits.com (link) provides a skid pan day but requires 25 cars a session, £49 each - not sure how good it is but it is one of the cheapest around.
Noticed the Lotus club has organised one in April, perhaps we can do something similar if we have enough interests?
Just for info, there are 25 free spots for 5th May at North Weald Airfield in Essex.

I also have friends who have an evo 9, dc2r, tsport, and they could get some people together too.

Oh and thanks for the welcome all, great community here.
Will try to upload pics after I have time to perform a full detail, pretty filthy now, but it's pretty much stock, in silverstone grey with red interior like a baboon's arse (not feeling it at first tbh but it's growing on my now )
