This is a replacement for the entire airbox. will suffer from heatsoak. Get the Gen II if you want something like this as the shield seals it to the bonnet

I've wondered, for the money is it REALLY worth it...? Now and again I'll take the air box cover off, grin a bit, then finally get a bit fed up with the noise and be happy to get that cover back on again! I reckon the engine sound better with a bit of noise suppression at the air box anyway (only my opinion mind you!) Obviously to get the best from such a mod you need to vent in the cool air and that's what adds to the cost/complexity.

They say 'better HP and acceleration' but I wonder if you'd actually notice performance increase, apart from the noise making it feel faster!

There is very little or zero increase in HP or acceleration. I have a K&N Gen II fitted to my S. The roar is amazing and almost doubles in volume when you hit vtec. I think the throttle response is very slightly better (but I may be imagining that). In my opinion, well worth buying for the sound alone.

I took some footage before of my GEN 2 driving past, I will link to this thread when it's uploaded.

I love the sound it makes!

Cool - is the sound much different from taking off the air box lid on a standard car? Hopefully more rounded and less raspy/unrefined sounding?

Not sure about the sound as ive never taken the standard airbox lid off but I know alot of people had problems with heat soak doing this. With the K&N Gen 2, you dont get this as its heat shielded.

And it looks sweet under the hood too. Popped mine in a couple of weeks back:

I've fallen in love with the car even more. The noise has to be coaxed out with the right foot and is a lovely burbly growl at low load and mental at VTEC under full acceleration. I was actually pretty shocked when I first heard it and I'd been pootling around prior to that with the airbox lid off!

And as a relative newbie to getting my hands dirty, the process of installing it pretty much ignited my eternal love affair with the internal combustion engine.
