You're selling the idea to me Matt! And it looks pretty at home in there. Is it a GEN2?

What's it like at constant motorway cruising speed - noticably intrusive or not..?

The noise is broadly similar but I would still say more refined. There is no buzzing at idle, a very faint spinny-whispery noise when you put your foot down and the 'bub-bub-bub-bub-" when foot gets closer to the floor. It's not present at constant revvage so I haven't noticed it on the motorway (something which puts me off an exhaust).

To my mind it's how the car should sound out of the box.

That said, though I say it's more refined in general, the volume at full throttle over VTEC transition seems to me to be even louder than airbox lid off. It surprised me at first. Certainly more pedestrians seem to look around than before.

But it scares my passengers silly so it's fine by me.

Matt

ps - yes, GenII, 57i FIPK.

I've had a K&N Gen II now for a about a year (2002 car). There are wild claims about increased power etc, but I think the car feels more powerful. Whereas in the past I might have used 2nd I now use 3rd gear... OK, no dyno measurements but it's my perception so that counts.

More importantly at normal revs including motorway driving you couldn't tell it was there. No increase in in-cabin sound.

However you floor the pedal and once the revs go above the VTEC change at some 6,200 the noise is NASCAR like I kid you not. Addictive yes.

I have used airbox lid on and off over the years - but it just does not compare. The car does feel less powerful, and the sound is just rough.

I bolted mine onto my 2007 S after I'd had it just a few days.

That certainly made it a bit more snarly, then I changed the exhaust and the car really sounds TDB now

What I found strange when I drove another S with a different intake and exhaust was how they are so completely different in sound. Usefuls HKS is far louder when you are outside the car but when you are sitting in the car you hear his exhaust from the back of the car while whith mine the combination of exhaust and intake is all around you.

I've been toying with the idea of fitting a K&N 57i GEN II.

However, sourcing one at a decent price is proving something of challenge.
