The Kangaroo
I've been driving my S2000 about a week now, and think I am getting the hang of it, but a few times, when driving in stop-start traffic, have found 2nd gear madly kangarooing, even though only using light throttle
- quite embarrassing when you're trying to look cool in your new acquisition!
I'm running on Super Unleaded.
Anyone else have this problem?
Should I be going to my dealer Southern Counties, who I see on another thread have received the lowest score of all?

Absolutely normal Im afraid Alex. Well, maybe not but Im not convinced anyone knows exactly what the problem is.
I get the kangerooing frequently but Ive learnt to drive around it by blipping the throttle, using third more (more torque there than you think), revving higher and using the clutch.
Have a search for MAP sensor which many reckon is related.

Alex, you'll get used to it and it seems to come by 'second nature' after a few weeks that you can almost predict when it's going to happen. Not good when you're up beside a boxster giving it the big'un!
My car did this when new and is generally fine now. Had a little problem the other day but it was the first for a long time.
Jam your foot against the carpet and try to hold the throttle still. This at least stops you bouncing your foot on the accelerator!
Use a few more revs than you'd ideally like when crawling in traffic and with time the engine will be more torquey. The engine management is a bit strange sometimes. If the problem persists go for a blast but let the car cool down slowly before trying driving in stop start traffic again. My car gets upset if it has been thrashed then has to crawl along. I'm convinced it is something to do with the ECU reaction time.
I don't believe my car has a sensor problem but some cars have had problems with various sensors.

Yep, mine did this a lot in warm weather whilst queueing in traffic particularly. Seems to have settled down now, hardly ever does it, either age or Optimax seems to help.
More revs when pulling away seems to be the general cure, and the MAP sensor or IAT sensor seem to be to blame, tapping the MAP sensor seems ot provide some people some work.

Glad to hear it's not just me - thanks for all the tips, will try them out so that Sussex folk stop pointing and staring in wonderment at the hopping red machine!
