Default Kangarooing UPDATE!!

For those who read my thread on the kangarooing issue this is what has happened.

As I was leaving work yesterday the engine warning light came on, so I took it to the dealer and they put in on the computer. Apparently there was water in the connector for the oxygen sensor (their words). So they cleaned it out, and now all seems fine. I ask the guy what he thought of the kangarooing and he said that this would have been the cause I don't know enough about the engine to argue with him. The strange thing is I don't know how water got in it in the first place, maybe I'm washing her too much any technical comments welcome (Brian)

Just to change the subject of the thread, i'm looking at buying a CAI. I'm not interested in noise that much, more getting over the heat soak problem. I have seen the Mugen kit, but I don't fancy loosing an arm and a leg to get one Are there any cheeper solutions?

Cheers

Andy

This is exact same problem I had (I posted a story about mine - can't remember if it was on you're previous thread or not, but you could search for it)

My car is 16mths/18k miles old, and gets jetwashed and handwashed about once a month or so, sits outside all the time.

This has happened to me THREE times

Supposedly it's a design fault with water running down the front of the scuttle off the screen into the engine compartment (god knows how).

My dealer did an "unofficial" mod to sort this after consulting Honda UK, so Honda certainly know about it.

(very Heath Robinson mod BTW, but I don't care as long as it works)

I find your mechanic's explanation a bit odd. There are two O2 sensors on this car. One is screwed into the header and the other is screwed into the catalytic converter. These two areas get extremely hot and any water (or condensation) would not stay for long especially in light of the fast that the sensors are mounted away from any possible water "pooling". Let us know if the kangarooing comes back. I have a feeling that it just might.

From what I understand from the dealer, the water gets into the loom and either corrodes or shorts the sensor cable - I don't think it's actually the sensor that is at fault (although that is what the ECU reads it as), rather the corrosion/short causes the sensor to send erroneous messages.

My dealer originally replaced the O2 sensor on my car the first time this happened (cause that is what the ECU said) - it was only after the problem persisted that they realised what was going on.

The mechanic said the connection which had the water in was on top of the gearbox. He also said this conector should be sealed and water should not get in.

I guess it could be that water gets into the loom at the top of the harness and then tracks its way down the inside (or outside) of the cables to the gearbox, where it starts playing silly b@ggers with the sensor.

OK, I understand now. I agree that the wiring harness should have been keeping the water out but then, it could have been damaged or defective or not pushed together tightly.
